๐ผ Find a Job
Before You Start
Barcelona has a vibrant job market, especially in tourism, IT, and services. EU nationals find it easier, but for non-EU, permits are needed. Becoming fluent in either Spanish or Catalan helps a lot. Job search may take a few weeks.
Language Requirements
Spanish is widely used, but Catalan can be needed for public sector or education roles. Many international companies operate in English, especially in tech, startups, and tourism.
Applying for Jobs
CVs should ideally be concise (one page), clear and in English, Spanish or Catalan depending on the company. Personal photo is common. Motivation letters are sometimes needed.
Interviews
Interviews tend to be informal, but punctuality and respect are valued. Often 1-2 rounds, with technical or group assessments for some sectors.
Job Offers & Contracts
Salary negotiation is possible, especially for skilled roles. Always request offer letter in writing. Contracts can be indefinite, fixed-term, or internship.
Working as an Employee
Probation periods are typical (1-6 months). Payroll is usually monthly, with two extra payments in June and December. Social security registration is mandatory.
Hiring as an Employer
Employers must register with Seguridad Social and Agencia Tributaria. Written contracts are required. Catalan employment law may have some variations.
